GPA Plus vs. BetterCampus: Which One Do You Actually Need?

These two extensions get compared a lot, and the honest answer is that they're not really trying to do the same job. BetterCampus is a broad Canvas customization suite; GPA Plus is narrowly built around grades, GPA, and due dates. Here's where they actually differ.

Where GPA Plus is the better fit

If a professor has hidden the total grade in a course, GPA Plus reads the raw assignment scores and computes the real percentage anyway, which isn't BetterCampus's focus. The what-if slider for projecting a final exam score is also unique to GPA Plus between the two. If grades and due dates are the whole problem, GPA Plus does that narrower job without asking you to also adopt a new visual theme for Canvas.

Where BetterCampus is the better fit

BetterCampus does more overall: dark mode, custom themes, dashboard layout and color controls, and its own GPA calculator, all in one install. If you want Canvas to look and feel different, not just show your grades more clearly, it covers more ground. Its GPA calculator also covers the general case well; the specific edge case of a professor-hidden total is where GPA Plus's approach differs.

The honest answer

Nothing stops you from running both, since they touch different parts of the interface and don't conflict. If you had to pick one: choose GPA Plus if grades and due dates are the actual daily frustration, choose BetterCampus if you also want the visual overhaul, or want a GPA calculator plus theming in one place and the hidden-total case doesn't apply to you.
